Staar Surgical manufactures and sells implantable lenses and delivery systems used to insert the lenses into the eye, both of which are used in corrective and refractive surgeries. It also produces intraocular lenses, or IOLs, used in cataract surgery. Staar’s key product for refractive surgery is the Visian ICL, which can treat nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. The ICL is implanted behind the iris and in front of the natural lens through a minimally invasive procedure. Sales of ICLs contribute the majority of overall revenue. Staar Surgical generates the largest proportion of its revenue outside of the United States.
